Initiatives

The crises of our time do not arrive separately. Climate breakdown, gender inequality, the erosion of care are not parallel problems but overlapping ones, each deepening the others. Intertidal Lab works in the places where intersections are visible: where the response to one crisis can seed the conditions for addressing another, and where the connections between movements, leaders and ideas become a source of collective power. We are building infrastructure for emergence that heals the separations keeping us from building collective power and regenerative responses. Our work takes different forms, but it starts from the same place: seeing the whole, and working across it, is where transformation becomes possible.

Climate Equity Lab

Climate change affects everyone, but it does not affect everyone equally. Women, girls and gender diverse people across the Global Majority face the sharpest edges of climate breakdown, compounded by systemic inequalities that limit their access to resources, decision making and the tools to drive change.

A just and equitable energy transition will be built by leaders deeply rooted in their communities, people who understand the intersecting pressures of climate breakdown and systemic inequality from the inside. What’s needed is an ecosystem: connected leaders who can think and act together, sustained by the resources, relationships and care infrastructure that make long-term movement work possible.

The Climate Equity Lab exists to connect, collaborate and innovate at the intersections of climate breakdown, gender equality and care. Our programme supports women and gender diverse leaders from communities across the Global Majority to become the architects of a just and equitable energy transition. We focus on building the capacity, connections and resources to move from vision to action.

Shifting the Paradigm: From Capitalism to Care

What if care were not the afterthought, but the architecture?

Care for people, for communities, for the living world is the invisible infrastructure that holds communities and movements together.

The fractures in existing systems are visible. The cost of care-less organising is undeniable. And across movements, there is a growing appetite for something different. Not just a critique of what isn’t working, but a vision and the tools to build what comes next.

Shifting from capitalism to care is not just a values statement, it is a strategic intervention. When care is recognised as movement infrastructure, it changes what gets resourced, how organising happens, and which futures become possible.

Working with funders, grantees and cross-movement partners, we develop the strategies and narratives that move care from the margins to the centre. We are working towards reorientation: away from extractive models, towards approaches that sustain the people and relationships that make change possible, and that embed care as a core strategic pillar for movements, communities, economies and ecology and for the future.

Collaborations

The most adaptive ecosystems don’t work alone. Across Intertidal Lab’s work, we seek out and build partnerships with organisations that share our commitment to justice, care and the kind of systemic change the moment demands. We work in collaboration with values-aligned partners across movements and geographies weaving together different expertise, networks and perspectives in service of what none of us could build separately. We support groups to collaborate and co-create using tools embedded in neuroscience, systems thinking, feminist practices and collective well being. If you are working at the edges of what’s possible and looking for a partner to think, experiment, facilitate and grow alongside, we’d love to hear from you. Our current and recent partners include Pooled International Energy Fund, AktivAsia, UMI Fund and the Clean Mobility Collective.
